Reviews & Scores
The 1990 Clos des Goisses is shockingly vibrant for a wine of its age. Then again, that's Goisses. Distinctly Riesling-inflected, mineral notes meld into mint, graphite and stone fruits in an explosive, viscerally thrilling Clos des Goisses that brings this flight to a rousing finish. Still a baby, the 1990 will reward those lucky enough to own it with decades of sublime drinking. (AG) - VM

Disgorged May 2013. Along with the 2000, this vintage has softer acidity (relatively speaking) than the 2002 and the more typical ripeness of fruit from this walled vineyard. Magificently complex aromas and flavours including honey, citrus, delicate spice and brioche and shortbread. The hallmarks are elegance and youthfulness. It was a perfect match (to my surprise) with the pigeon. (JH) - JR

I have generally found the 1990 vintage in Champagne (as elsewhere in Europe) to have aged relatively briskly and to not have really fulfilled its early promise. However, this is not true of the 1990 Clos des Goisses, which is one of the best examples of this vintage I have tasted in quite some time. The wine today is fully mature and drinking beautifully, offering up scents of pear, apple, almond paste, blossoming musky floral tones, smoke, a touch of yellow curry and a gently savory topnote that might recall geraniums. On the palate the wine is focused, full-bodied, complex and a point, with a fine mid-palate depth, elegant mousse, very good acidity and a long, multi-dimensional finish that echoes just a touch of the savory elements to be found on the nose. A lovely, lovely wine. - JG

A brooding young Champagne, with plenty in reserve. Rich, floral and biscuitlike Pinot Noir flavors unfold on the dense, full-bodied structure. It picks up a walnut note on the finish. This will reward the patient. (BS) - WS
